Apply for the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation's 2022 Research Grants

The Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation is now accepting Research Grant Applications for its 2022 submissions cycle. The Foundation awards research grants in three different categories: 1) Doctoral Research Grants; 2) Faculty Research Grants; 3) Seed Research Grants. Individuals and organizations in the United Arab Emirates and overseas are eligible to apply, and proposals are welcomed from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2022.

Doctoral Research Grants

The Al Qasimi Foundation’s Doctoral Research Grants encourage scholars from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields to undertake research toward informing policymaking in the United Arab Emirates. The Grants are open to PhD students from all nationalities studying at an accredited university in the United Arab Emirates or abroad. To apply or to learn more, please go here.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a current PhD student at an accredited university in good academic standing.
  • Applicant must have a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 85 or IELTS score of 6.5 if English is a secondary language.
  • Applicant must have all PhD coursework completed and be ready to conduct the field research component of his/her dissertation.
  • Applicant must have a research proposal that is approved (or is in the process of being approved) by the applicant’s advisor and graduate program. The approved proposal should include a literature review and significant detail on research methodology.
  • The proposed research must have Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from the applicant’s home institution.
  • The proposed research must focus on the United Arab Emirates, and specifically the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. If the research proposal includes other locations, Ras Al Khaimah must be a significant focus for data gathering and analysis.
  • Proposed research must address an education, public policy, or closely related social science issue or question. Relevant topics (dependent on research question) may include areas such as education, urban planning/development, public health, economic development, food access, and energy or environmental policy.
    The following research areas do not qualify for Doctoral Research Grants because they are not considered policy-related: business or marketing, agronomy, engineering, IT or computer science, laboratory-based or scientific studies, and medical degrees.

Review generally takes 6-8 weeks based on the volume of submissions received. Applicants should receive an update on the status of their proposal by the beginning of May 2022. Faculty Research Grants

The Al Qasimi Foundation’s Faculty Research Grants are open to current faculty members at recognized tertiary institutions from across the world. They are designed to sponsor faculty conducting field research in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah over the summer months or during a sabbatical. To apply or to learn more, please go here.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be a current faculty member at an accredited tertiary institution who holds a doctorate or other terminal degree.
  • Applicant must have a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 85 or IELTS score of 6.5 if English is a secondary language.
  • Applicant’s proposed research must focus on the United Arab Emirates, and specifically the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. If the research proposal includes other locations, Ras Al Khaimah must be a significant focus for data gathering and analysis.
  • Proposed research must address an education, public policy, or closely related social science issue or question. Relevant topics (dependent on research question) may include areas such as education, urban planning/development, public health, economic development, food access, and energy or environmental policy.
  • Proposed research must have Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval at the applicant’s home institution.

Seed Research Grants

The Al Qasimi Foundation’s Seed Grants provide modest start-up funding (maximum 50,000 AED) to conduct applied research or to pilot initiatives that fall beyond the scope of its Doctoral and Faculty Research programs. Individuals and organizations in the United Arab Emirates and overseas are eligible to apply, and proposals are welcomed from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields. Grant funds are allocated based on the proposal’s budget and may be used for a variety of purposes. To apply or to learn more, please go here.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must demonstrate collaboration between at least two different organizations, one of which must be in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Applicant must demonstrate collaboration between at least two different organizations, one of which must be in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Applicant must illustrate capacity to successfully undertake the proposed project or applied research based on prior experiences.
  • Applicant must leverage matching funds, expertise, or other in-kind resources to achieve anticipated goals and outcomes.
  • Proposal must focus on the United Arab Emirates, and specifically the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. If the proposal includes other locations, Ras Al Khaimah must be a significant emphasis and beneficiary of the project.
  • Proposal must address an education, public health, urban planning/development, or closely related public policy issue relevant to Ras Al Khaimah and the United Arab Emirates.
  • Applicant must demonstrate how the proposal aligns with the Al Qasimi Foundation’s 2013-2018 Research, Capacity Development, or Community Engagement strategies.
  • Proposal must address sustainability considerations and anticipated next steps for once Seed Grant funding ends (as applicable).

The Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research was established in 2009 to aid in the social, cultural, and economic development of Ras Al Khaimah, a northern emirate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
