Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2023: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)

The JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is designed to provide promising, highly qualified, young researchers with the opportunity to conduct advanced research in sustainability in cooperation with host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutions. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months.

The application deadline is 31 May 2023, eligible candidates are invited to fill out the Application Form. The Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme begins on 1 September and the selected Fellows are required to be in Japan by this date. Applicants must hold a doctorate received on or after 2 April 2016 when the fellowship begins or be scheduled to receive a doctorate before the fellowship begins.

Under this programme, fellows are expected to conduct research within one of the thematic areas listed below under the supervision by the host researcher. The proposed research must be policy-relevant and incorporate gender issues within the research agenda.

  • Governance for Climate Change & Sustainable Development (GSD)
  • Biodiversity & Society (BDS)
  • Water & Resource Management (WRM)
  • Innovation & Education (IVE)
