II Freire Conference: building the bridge between popular education and university

Between 17-21 October 2022, the II Freire Conference: building the bridge between popular education and university will take place at the Faculty of Education (University of Cambridge), the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and online, organised by the The Cambridge Latin American Research in Education Collective (CLAREC) and Universidade Emancipa.

It is an international, multicultural, and interdisciplinary initiative organised by a collective of people based in multiple academic institutions and social movements. The main objective is to promote a pluricultural, democratic and popular space where the international attendants (students, teachers, speakers, popular educators, activists, and researchers) can meet, dialogue, and share knowledge. This seminar is also part of the CLAREC Annual Meeting, an event that celebrates two years of the collective’s foundation. 

A special pre-conference session on the “Concept and history of Popular Education: lessons from Latin America” with guest speaker Rosy Zúñiga, General Secretary of the Consejo de Educación Popular de América Latina y el Caribe –CEAAL, will be held on Monday 7th of October 2022.

Pre-conference session

Join a special pre-conference session on “Concept and history of Popular Education: lessons from Latin America” with guest speaker Rosy Zúñiga on Monday 7th of October 2022 at 14:00 UK time | 08:00 Mexico | 10:00 Brasil/Chile. This event will be held online and in-person at the Faculty of Education – University of Cambridge. Room G03 – Mary Allan Building. Hills Road, Cambridge CB2 8PH.The event will be interpreted in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Sign Language (Brazil). In addition, attendance certificates will be provided.

Rosy Zúñiga is a Feminist Popular Educator and Communicator. Sociologist, Master in Regional Rural Development, graduate in Popular Educators Formation. She is the current General Secretary of CEAAL and; a member of the Mexican Institute for Community Development Board of Directors. She has coordinated various training processes in Popular Education in Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and the United States of America. She coordinated the National Methodological School, the Latin American workshop on Systematisation of Experiences, and the workshop on Impact Research in Community Development Processes; she coordinated the Training Programme for the Socio-Political Action of Mexican Civil Society Organisations (FORMAS). He represented CEAAL in the International Council of the World Social Forum and was part of the team that coordinated the Virtual World Social Forum in 2021 and the World Social Forum in Mexico in 2022.
