13 December in Bern: Launch Global Education Monitoring Report (GEMR) on Accountability

The Swiss launch of the GEM Report 2017/8 will take place on 13 December 2017 in Bern. The event is organised by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in collaboration with the Swiss Commission for UNESCO, the Swiss Network for Education and International Cooperation (RECI) and the Swiss Forum for Skills Development and International Cooperation (FoBBIZ).

The 2017/8 Global Education Monitoring Report ‘Accountability in education: Meeting our commitments’ defines accountability as “a process aimed at helping individuals or institutions meet their responsibilities and reach their goals. Actors have an obligation, based on a legal, political, social, or moral justification, to provide an account of how they met clearly defined responsibilities.” Based on this definition, it will investigate accountability issues in education, analysing how relevant actors (government, schools, teachers, parents, students, international organisations, and the private sector) can provide education more effectively, efficiently and equitably. In addition, the Report will continue assessing the progress towards SDG 4 of the agenda 2030, as well as other related education targets in the SDG agenda. The GEM Report was published on the 24 October 2017.
