Igarapé Institute, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

The Igarapé Institute is a southern think tank based in Brazil devoted to evidence-based policy and action on complex social challenges. Its goal is to stimulate humane engagement on emerging security and development issues.

Collaboration between NORRAG and IGARAPE was started in November 2014 through a Memorandum of Understanding which initiated the first phase of the collaborative project on Educational Strategies for Dealing with Urban Violence (ESDUV), in partnership with the American Institutes for Research (Washington D.C.). The first phase (2014-2015) was intended to test the proof of concept of a collaborative approach to mapping and assessing education interventions – both formal and non-formal - to prevent and reduce violence in Brazil and South Africa.

Based on the results and the common evaluation of phase 1 of the project, continued collaboration for the next phases of the project in Brazil will be defined and specified.
