Professor Gita Steiner-Khamsi is joining NORRAG as the new Director
We are very pleased to announce the arrival of Professor Gita Steiner-Khamsi as the new Director of NORRAG. The Network will be co-directed by Dr Joost Monks, who will serve as Executive Director. Professor Michel Carton will take the position of Senior Advisor.
Professor Steiner-Khamsi has been seconded by Columbia University, where she is a Professor of Comparative and International Education at Teachers College, to strengthen the field of international education at The Graduate Institute in Geneva. She will hold a dual academic affiliation as a full professor, splitting her time between the two institutions. In parallel, she will join NORRAG as the new Director as of February 2017 with the aim of expanding the Network’s research capacities and outreach.
A past president of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), Professor Steiner-Khamsi is actively engaged in the professionalization of international and comparative education. She published several books and journal articles in globalization studies, comparative policy studies (policy borrowing and lending), and development work. She is series editor of the World Yearbook of Education (Routledge) and International Perspectives on Education Reform (Teachers College Press). She recently co-edited the World Yearbook of Education 2016 on The Global Education Industry with Antoni Verger and Christopher Lubienski (Routledge, 2016). Her applied policy work is in the areas of strategic planning, evaluation, school reform and teacher policy in developing countries, with a special focus on Central Asia and Mongolia.
